Eastgate Oriental City Opening in Bristol

Friday 20th July 2007

A Chinese cash and carry and supermarket has recently relocated to the Eastville area of Bristol. The opening day of the new £3.6 million store on 8th July was attended by over 3,000 people and the official opening was presided over by the Lord Mayor of Bristol.

Bailey Partnership acted as project manager, employer’s agent, quantity surveyor and planning supervisor for the client Wai Yee Hong, the largest supplier of oriental goods in the South West.

The building which houses an oriental cash and carry, supermarket and restuarant is a dramatic red, white and jade creation with wood panelling, designed by local Bristol architects, Barlow Henley. The entrance feature consists of a large 12m diameter copper drum with a sweeping main staircase to the first floor gallery. The contractor was Midas Construction, Taunton.
