Brrr-illiant Chinese New Year Celebrations 2009!

Traditional Lion Dance CostumeOn 1st February 2009, crowds of people joined us for our very cold Chinese New Year celebrations! The festivities started with a traditional firecracker, to scare away all of the evil spirits for the New Year. Our firecracker was carefully set off by trained pyrotechnicians, and our event was probably the only place in Bristol where you might have experienced this!

Despite the cold weather and even the appearance of snow, the lion dance and unicorn dance troupes gave stunning displays of kung fu. The two lions and Unicorn took turns to ‘Choi Cheng’ (picking the greens) and enter the store to bring luck and fortune to all. Visitors were also able to get up close and personal with a traditional Lion Dance costume in-store, as well a learn a bit more about the history and folklore surrounding this popular Chinese tradition.

We would like to thank all the people who braved the cold weather to come and join in with our festivities, as well as the Pak Mei and Yi Quin Kung Fu Groups for their fantastic displays!

Gong Hei Fat Choi! May the year for the ox bring you happiness and prosperity!
