d20 Ltd, who were involved in the construction of the Eastgate Oriental City complex, have featured images of the building on their website, along with the following blurb:
oriental spice market
The Eastgate centre was built on the site of Eastville market. It’s a fabulous building – light, modern and airy and houses the Wai Yee Hong supermarket; a high ceilinged emporium of all foods Chinese and East Asian. They have the biggest selection of soy sauces, sesame oils, cooking wine, sauces and marinades, crackers, herbs and spices, flavourings, teas, frozen goods, tinned goods and also a selection of cooking utensils and woks. The aisles are well spaced and it’s great for browsing.
Our work involved constructing in-situ reinforced concrete radius walls up to 8m high in the shape of a drum. This incorporated the staircase linking the entrance foyer on the ground floor with the first floor Chinese restaurant.
Our other works involved groundworks, drainage and external works.
