RESTAURANT BEGINS LIFE WITH A ROAR

A New oriental restaurant in Bristol with space to cater for 450 diners swung open its doors in style at the weekend.Water Sky is part of an £8 million Eastgate Oriental Centre which also comprises a Chinese supermarket and cash and carry.

To launch the restaurant, there was an opening party on Saturday complete with a traditional lion dance.

The restaurant, part of the complex in two acres of land off Eastgate Road, has a terrace for 150 people and room for 300 people inside.

It is staffed by 22 chefs and will be run by Gary Ma, who has signed a 21-year lease on the venue.

Water Sky was officially opened by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Royston and Hazel Griffey.

Guests then sampled what will be available when they tucked into a buffet menu offering 45 different oriental dishes.

John Thornell, spokesman for the complex, said: “We must have had 200 to 300 bouquets of flowers from different well-wishers.

“It was a very successful evening.

“The restaurant was booked with 300 people the next day and in September a wedding party has been booked in for 400 guests. It’s tremendous.

“The supermarket and cash and carry have already been open for three weeks. It’s going fantastically well and it’s been very busy.”

The development is the brainchild of brothers-in-law Alan Tan and Raymond Chow, who ran their Wai Yee Hong cash and carry for 20 years in Station Road, Montpelier.
