Wai Yee Hong and the Eastgate Oriental City complex is showcased on johntarchitects.co.uk with some beautiful pictures of the building.

This building houses several Chinese businesses. It includes a supermarket, 300 seat restaurant and a mix of private office spices, whilst supporting an existing market. The change in level across the site allows the building to respond to the 2 storey housing to the north, whilst advertising itself to its commercial neighbours to the south.

The client was keen to have a contemporary building containing a spirit of the wider Chinese culture. The design uses pre-patinated copper, contrasting rendered panels and aluminium rainscreen cladding.

The prominent 12-metre high, 17-metre deep copper drum provides a focal point which contains the accommodation stair providing a single point of access to the various functions.
