Takeaway Revolution BBC1 – April 2015

We were excited to see lovely Masterchef 2013 runners up, Larkin Cen and Dale Williams, on our TV screens again in Larkin & Dale’s Takeaway Revolution. The BBC documentary charts the pair’s highs and lows in setting up their latest venture, a chain of Asian takeaway restaurants called Hokkei.

During filming, Larkin and camera crew came in store to pick up specialist ingredients for their pop-up at the Eat Drink Bristol Fashion annual food event held in Queen Square, Bristol. We have made a short edit of the show, where Larkin comes in to purchase Chinese herbal soup ingredients from Wai Yee Hong.

In case you were wondering, ‘bark stuff’ is pak kee, known as Astralagus propinquus, ‘stick stuff’ is fong don sum, or Radix codonopsis, and ‘chalk stuff’ is wai shan; Dioscerea Opposita (Nagaimo in Japanese).

Wai Yee Hong supplies specialist goods to Hokkei, and Larkin still pops in-store, so perhaps next time you visit us, you might bump into him and be able to ask him your foodie questions!
